Narelle Wemyss
I get excited about helping people create spaces they love - whether it's a new kitchen, bathroom, laundry, or entire house full of joinery. I pride myself in being approachable, friendly and knowledgable and feel that good design should be available to everyone. I like to take a collaborative approach to projects and have a strong network that can help deliver you the best outcomes.. What does an interior designer do exactly?
I get asked this a lot! For myself, I design new kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, mudrooms, robes etc - basically any internal room in the home with fixed cabinetry.
I measure up existing rooms or work from plans to draw up how a new space will look, with attention to the layout and flow, based on exactly how YOU use it. You get to see your ideas come to life.
If you need help in moving the project along, I work with appliance specialists and local cabinetmakers to help you see the project through to completion.
Why do you need an interior designer for your project? What services do I offer?
My services can include all or any part of:
- layout/spacial planning ie. what exactly goes where. Getting the flow right in a space and ensuring you don’t miss anything is crucial in avoiding frustrations at the end of the project. We have knowledge of building standards - heights, clearances etc as well as new technologies you may find helpful in your new space.
- advice/assistance on material selection. We have knowledge of the many options for cabinetry finishes and suppliers. Material prices can vary greatly which is why we always need an indication of your budget for the project. We can then help guide you to strike that balance of quality and budget. I am not associated with any particular supplier so will always work with the company that is best suited to you.
- creating 3d coloured renders including video flythroughs of spaces if you are a visual person and you just really want to see how your space will look.
- creating 2d/CAD working drawings once the design is signed off and ready to go
- obtaining quotes for you for the work. I have good working relationships with local cabinetmakers and can source quotes for you. I of course then work closely with the Project Manager to ensure the job is completed and the design intent is met.
Don't interior designers cost a fortune?
I must admit, before I started renovating myself, I used to think this. Building and renovating requires a lot of relevant knowledge to avoid costly mistakes and ensure the money you spend on your investment is well spent. What better way to protect that investment than to gain expert advice from people who do this all day every day - not just as a one off.
A good Interior designer will save you time and money by:
- saving you countless hours in research. We keep up to date on current standards, trends, suppliers, technology etc.
- understanding the range/options/costs for materials/fixtures/fittings to help guide you on the best product for your needs and budget.
- providing you a 3d visual representation of your project so you get a very clear idea what the finished job will look like. No surprises.
- putting you in touch with industry contacts (cabinetmakers, builders, plumbers, electricians etc.) that can help see your project to completion.
- providing access to product suppliers (who often pass on designer discounts).
- providing professional and qualified advice to help guide decisions with your project
- most importantly, adding value to your home.
